Social pressure is everywhere. Risking prison every time you speak or write and holding opinions 90% of which are taboo is a completely different thing, though.

the key difference is that in US there is not freedom of speech's ban provided by the government. While Russia does.

People get fired for being themselves everywhere — they don’t get tortured, imprisoned and their belongings taken away everywhere though.
