In November 2019, Luke and one other maintainer started an almost identical business called "October CMF" and used their position in the community to promote this project fork to all customers. Prior to this, Alexey and I had been working on the business side of October CMS, building connections with partners and working on marketing for years. The fork was damaging for those connections and for the community's trust.
Alexey was upset and disappointed by the fork. I was hurt by this betrayal but wanted the best for the project, so I tried to maintain the internal relationships and keep everyone happy. We explored multiple ways to move forward, but the only solution was to rebuild the business structure to prevent similar problems in the future. Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense to continue our time on it.
For the past year or so, we have monitored the project from a distance without being too involved to avoid further conflict. During this time, we also worked on a private copy of October CMS. After some time, and after what happened, we feel we can no longer work with Luke. We can't allow a situation where a part of the team works standalone, and we can't manage them. We need people we can trust and manage. So, as a result, we rebuilt the organisation structure to become more compact and manageable. If we need to extend with more people, it will be with people who live close to us that we can meet in person.
It is important to know that Alexey and I have always worked together, mostly in private. People may have different perceptions about this, including negative things, like we are not working or we abandon our project. This is just not a reality, and one of us has always been working on this project for its entire lifespan.
