As a Kotlin/Scala/Java developer on Windows I use bash a lot. Since that has become the de facto standard development shell. Thankfully with WLS (Windows Linux Subsystem) that is really well supported and will only get better. But that means I'm constantly building within Windows and Linux (I use gradle but I'm sure maven/sbt is similar), downloading dependencies within Windows and Linux, etc. You get the picture. More annoyingly: with running/debugging gradle & junit from IntelliJ under Windows you quickly encounter really annoying limitations wrt classpath length. And those problems are just plain absent under MacOS/Linux. What I'd like is that the build only happens under Linux, and the IDE is under Windows. Just one build, reused between terminal & IDE. Running JVM stuff like gradle/junit just works. I know it's a direction that Visual Code is taking. I'd like that in IntelliJ for Jvm development on Windows.…
